I have a few - and plan on several more over the next few years. I have them built for me, as I am unable to do it myself, and having them done professionally to the standard I want puts them in the same price bracket as a Fred Suber model.
Strangely enough, when most people see the small handful of model cars I have out on display, the first thing they comment on is the Nieuport Ni17 I have sitting the background...
This plane I have because of its history in being the story behind the Ferrari emblem.
However, a number of the aircraft I hope to have one day are vintage raceplanes, a subject I feel goes together very nicely with a lot of my 1/43 car collection. I am wondering how many of you would consider collecting model aircraft like that (if not already), if they were built to a very high standard?

Indeed it is
As I rode my bike this afternoon I remembered a few other planes displayed that I had not posted, so here they are.
Another couple of the same era that look pretty slick to me. These are coin banks designed to get children to save. I doubt if I could have done so though if I had one, because I kept purchasing model airplane kits at the time and had nothing left to put into a bank.
And a few more aircraft I have scattered about, this one above the gas station bring in a few extra customers.
Didn't know where to land this one, so there it is in front of the four card diorama of Hot Wheels hot rods.
The Lockheed Vega 5b flown by Amelia Earhart over some interesting curvey cars of the same era.

I have a few on display mixed among my cars too.
Not as exquisite as yours but here are a few examples.
A large view of the entire top shelf in the display room shows many. I built the rubber band powered models on the shelf
almost 50 years ago.
1930's style, air and ground, Packards and planes

Well, my Vampire arrived today - and it is absolutely incredible! I could not be happier with it. Stéphane and Patrick have done as fine a job of it as anyone could wish for. The weathering would have to be the finest and most realistic I have ever seen.

The Nieuport is 1/48 scale, Joe. Max has one identical to mine which he photographed with a 250 California, here last year.
I wonder if there is a 1/48 scale Fletcher Navion kit in existence? It would make for an interesting diorama with your 550...
Speaking of vintage race planes, here are a couple I would very much like to have; the DH.88 Comet "Grosvenor House" and Caudron C.460

Nice!!! Bill Models does some great work. Is that 1/43rd???
A airplane hangar would be a cool theme to build a showcase around. You have me thinking... The 550 I'm building had a support plane that would be awesome to display with my finished model:)

I must admit I know nothing about vintage aircraft racers but they are beautiful machines. When I was collecting, I was drawn to design, not brands, for example I would have a Porsche 550 next to the Ugo Fadini Redhead speed record car. I could easily have an office full of aircraft, trains, cars, racing boats, racing motorcycles from the 60s and 70s, even submarines! I just need two things, a bigger office and a bigger bank account. |

Wonderful model and the build process immense. Aircraft are a great subject and a great backdrop... however the variety of scales available nowadays makes for difficult decisions when balanced against model cars of 1/43rd.
Love the Nieuport and the finish is right up there with the best.
