Posted - 08/20/2012 : 10:07:21 I am working on a single example of this Birdcage based on the AMR kit. I will take it thru the build process. I plan to make additions/corrections to the original kit, i.e. the decals and interior...and of course a special base featuring this context:
I plan to have this ready around the end of this month. Contact Mike if interested. |

Hello Gege,
Yes...I use a base coat [matt] clear coat [gloss] system as with full size cars [same material]. This allows me to make corrections, protect fragile decals from erosion, etc. |

Posted - 08/21/2012 : 07:49:51 The body prep, primer and paint have been applied. The initial decals from the kit are in place based on the historic photos. Refinements and additions will be made after a "scratch coat" of clear is applied to the body to protect the decals that are in place and allow me to fabricate the graphics AMR left out on the rear deck of the car.
The rivet holes for the windshield have been pre drilled and all of the panel lines were deepened and brought to the same depth. The pin stripes that normally appear on this car when modeled have been intentionally left off...why?...they are much too heavy in appearance when applied to the car as made by AMR. When observing the historic photos the pin stripes are so thin they disappear. I have elected to do model it this way for the sake of simplicity. They make the model look too busy at this scale. |
