Jean-Paul has begun his next series for Miniwerks. He will build 5 one-off versions based on Mike Craig's Esprit #02D kit. Jean-Paul's introduction below:

Chassis #4399GT has got one of the most succesful and long racing life of all GTOs. After being delivered new to Maranello Concessionaires in England in 1963, it was rebodied in 1964 in the new GTO style; Mike Craig had the good idea to present us a kit of this version in his Esprit 43 range. The kit can build 5 different races in 64 and 65 and I will build one of each.

– Tourist Trophy 64 – Innes Ireland
– Tour de France 64 – David Piper , Jo Siffert
– Tourist Trophy 1965 – Michael Salmon
– Spa 500 Km 1965 – Michael Salmon
– Nürburgring 1000 Km 1965 – Michael Salmon, Chris Kerrison

When each car has received this set of parts, with slight differences from one model to the other, they will be complete.

The 2 cars of 64, Tourist Trophy and Tour de France.

Decals have been applied, here the 3 races in 1965, Spa, Tourist Trophy and Nürburgring. The builder did not forget the prancing horse on the right front wing, it did only appear on the left wing during that year.

After final assembly of the interior parts, the cars are on their wheels now. Here the Tour de France 64 and Tourist Trophy 65 with rear blue wheels.

The front light covers, as always a little difficult step. To make things easier, the vac-formed items are underlined with a marker, before careful cutting until they fit perfecly in their location. The photo-etched surround is then bent to shape; and the two parts held in place with tiny bits of masking tape. A small wooden stick will help us to apply a 2 components epoxy glue on the surround. And finally the excess glue is wiped off with a Q-tip.

As usual the vac-formed parts are cut up one by one for the best possible fit. The side ones are made of two parts to reproduce the sliding effect of the real car.

Nice technique on the window frames...often thought about the black base coat for the gasket and silver over coat for the frame...still a difficult detail to pull off without looking out of scale.

Two steps for the windshield surrounds, first black paint for the rubber part and then silver for the chrome surround.

The bodies have been sanded and polished and we can paint some details, front and side lights locations, front wings air vents and windshield surrounds.

The main parts have been prepared and painted. As one-off pieces, the chassis are numbered MW 1/1. You can also see the blue wheels for two of the models.

After some time in the oven and a few days to let the paint harden, the bodies will be sanded once again and polished before continuing the building.

Varnish has been applied to give an even look between decals and the red paint.
Ferrarinut Posted - 05/14/2013 : 16:08:03
Ready for the varnish! For maximum realism, the air scoops will be added later on the body as they where during the 1964 racing season, due to overheating problems.
Ferrarinut Posted - 05/14/2013 : 16:03:43
The location of the white roundel has been cut up where necessary, to avoid the difference of shade when the white decal is applied over blue and red.

The decals do apply easily and only need a few paint touch-ups in some places. The body can now be sanded to get the most perfect surface before painting the varnish.
