why do people collect only BBR models , or only AMR / Le Phoenix ?

I am collecting for more than 20 years handbuilt Ferraris in 1/43
not a fan from chinese models , but there are some cars they are just must haves like a SP12EC
after Ferrari put the price for license into the air , we have very less actual builders .
do collectors still know builders like ABC , DALLARI , HECO , HILARIO , HOSTARO , MG , MOG , TRON ?

here is a part of my collection
top shelve , left to right
Ferrari serial numbers rising

front row
166 Sport Touring blue MG
166 Inter Touring green HECO
166 Inter Stabilimenti Farina red BBR
166 Inter Cabrio Stabilimenti Farina BBR
166 Inter Touring red HECO
166 Inter Touring blue MG
340 America red ABC
166 Inter Stabilimenti Farina blue-silver BBR
212 Export Vignale red-silver HILARIO
166 Inter Touring black HECO
166 Inter Vignale black BBR
166 Inter Ghia creme HOSTARO

back row
166 Inter Cabrio Bertone blue ILARIO
212 Export Spyder red A.M.RUF
212 Export Vignale red-black DALLARI
340 America Vignale red BBR
195 Inter Vignale silver-black DALLARI
212 Export Vignale Cabrio green HOSTARO
212 Export Vignale Cabrio green BBR
212 Inter Ghia-Aigle red AVANTI
212 Inter Vignale black-green HOSTARO
212 Inter Abbott silver-black ABC
212 Inter Vignale brown-creme BBR
212 Inter Vignale green DALLARI

you see 95 models / 48 are BBR

i collect everything and most.. i don't really mind if it is made in china or italy.. So as long it fits into the theme and collection thats all that matters.. subject is important.. china made models are just as good as italian as are italian far superior than chinese.. it is no matter.. Makeup are made in china/japan.. tameo FB are made in china..

neo and matrix model and spark although are not true handbuilts have great subjects.. Neo Maserati Zagato.. Matrix Jaguar xk120 Ghia.. Spark New Lancia Stratos.. Morgan Aeromax.. you can't beat it..

at the end of the day.. collect what you want..

i also have been collecting for my than 20 years.. my cabinets are full of majority of BBR/MR/Looksmart/Gasoline.. always one of each model and the best.. example would be 500SF Peter Sellers, 250 Drogo etc.. just one colour.. not multiple colours..

i started to buy AMR kits, Hilario, Hostaro, ABC.. as again the subject matter that the others don't do..

it is what makes it interesting and challenge.. be boring just sticking to the same brands..

Why do people collect a certain brand? Because it limits the numbers you buy, because it looks nice, or because some brands are more collectable than others. Or because the name stands for quality.

Every maker has models that are not that good.
The early bbr 1984 TR was terrible.. Brianza has quite few misses, the MR california isn't that good either (windscreenpillars are terrible). (just a few examples of a long list of models)

I have a lot of different brands in my collection.
Hilario, Hostaro, heco, nestor, amr, ACB, le Phoenix, Mr, Looksmart, Fyp Ilario, Brianza, Tron, Star, MG, minidelta piranha, MTL, and several others.
I have several kits built by topbuilders that are better than factorybuilts

I have only a few modern Ferrari's.

Its very interesting to see how a certain modeler interprates a car.
I am a big of the older handshaped models, its easy to make a modell nowadays, but creating something special by hand deserves a lot more respect.

For me its not about a whole cabinet of bbr or amr's its all about quality. Its easy buying a cabinet full of models! Its not easy finding the right ones I like! Collecting is a challenge, after 28 years there are still whannahaves..

Lately BBR has gone back to do what its good at, creating superb classic Ferrari's, that why I buy them, not because they are bbr's.

You have a great collection Christian!

(been busy since 1987)

Paolo, you are absolutely right!!

Are you sure about it? It's a BIG news for me :D

However i collect different brands ( BBR, MR, MG, Make Up Eidolon, Remember, Tameo.....) and i think that BBR has something more in terms of quality and durability, all models keep their value for a long time and don't have any kind of problems even after 20 or more years, that's why in my opinion the most beautiful BBR models are in the "dark green" box....the oldest are incredible.
And you can not say the same thing for all the other brands....

Hello Christian,

I collect only BBR models because:
-high-quality,
-handcrafting in Italy,
-forms of bodies are really realistic unlike other brands for my taste (AMR, etc ...)
-the last bases are well and snaps into the model before

Abel

I own a lot of older ABC , TRON and MG models
and most of them are fantastic

these models are hard to find because the production was not so high and not so easy to buy than a BBR in the times before we had web

I have two MG models and the quality is very good, so I guess it depends on the model, not all of them are bad.

Thanks!

poor quality :
as sample ABC : there are a lot of not so good models , but they have also some fantastic models like the black 212 export estate

incorrect models:
there is no builder without mistakes , including BBR and AMR

I would like to see BBR doing a more variety of models maybe 50's and 60's F1, Make up is doing a great job there models are superb, last year a got a Make up Porsche 911RS(from Miniwerks of course) and I felt in love, I think I love it so much that all my Ferraris put together, check out Make up models even do they are not doing Ferraris anymore they Porsches are great!

Hello There, I also collect mostly BBR and do have some Tecnomodel, MG, looksmart, I like BBR because there not very expensive and they are a solid build, I would like to see and buy more MG, Heco, Tron but they are very hard to find.

Thanks!

People focus on BBR and AMR because they are the most famous companies in resin and white metal handbuilts and the brands have a very good reputation. Hence their models keep their value and thats what makes the difference.

hello Erik

when I began to collect in 1992 there where no GTO , SWB and so on
the only newer cars where Testarossa , F40 , 288 GTO and 348 series
all others where from the 50 ies

except some cars like the 312PB , 400 SA and 365 California , these are the cars Alberto likes most
no wonder that this cars are the first to come in 1 : 18
