Two days ago I've got this long-awaited GTO speedster kit by Piranha

Hope some day it will looks like this one, built by Antelmi

Inside the box was copy of short article about the real car, described how it was born. Two persons stood behind this car - American Thursten Gregg and Scottish Alexander Craig. In small repair shop in Maranello Thursten bought "the remnants of the 250TR and 250GTO... body and chassis" as well as few V12 engines. Later from all those parts new speedster was built, registered as chassis 010406 and win Scottish West Coast Rally in 1973.
All this is very intrigued and sounds like detective story. Everybody know that history of all 250GTO chassis are well known, many times described in numerous books, magazines and sites like this http://www.barchetta.cc/All.Ferraris/All.Ferraris.html
Nowhere I find any information like selling of any 250GTO "remnants" and building new car from them. Also on the barchetta.cc I did't find ch/n 010406.
So, please, can anybody tell more detailed story of this speedster, why it was registered as new car, the chassis number of mystery donor 250GTO, etc? Or just point out to any good article(s) re this car?
Thank you in advise.
Vladimir

Hi Mark, that was actually an April Fool’s Joke in the spirit of Andre-Marie Ruf. When he made fantasy cars he would make up a story around the model. For example, his most famous April Fool’s Joke was the Ferrari 275GTB Fire Truck. Have you seen this model? He wrote a story about it as if it was a real car and fooled many people so Mike Craig, Michael Gregg and I had the idea to do the same with this GTO Speedster and I posted it on April 1st on my old Forum. I made up the story the night before. That was fun. Regards, Mike

This mail I received just now.
(I got my knowledge from the Piranha site which is now confirmed by Mikeyboy)

Hi Mark,
Thank you once more for comments. As I know the old Piranha site finally closed. And what about the new one? Is it existed? Which link? It's really very interesting.

Excellent job - painting, assembling. But general idea not at my taste.

I agree with you but, in any case , is sufficient to make a passage with a little of polish

The first time I have used the professional transparent paint but, unfortunately, the shine of the model got lost and so I have decided to remove it and, although or passed already much time, the model is still bright. I do not have more the model, that I have sold on ebay, but I know the person that have bought it.

Understand. But sooner or later unprotected metal will lost it's shine, especially if it stay in the air with high degree of humidity... It's so pity.

Thank you so much, guys!
Well, it's really cool joke, very fine! Looks so beauty and very like a real car copy...
Few years ago I've made something like this from BBR Panther kit:

Franco, your version looks superb! How do you protect polished metal from oxidation?

This is a fantasy car and no real GTO SPeedster exists. It is still very cool. As mentioned before, it is one of the infamous April fools joke models of the AMR family. The attention to detail goes as far as a background story was written. It was the same with the Ferrari 275 fire car which caused a lot of response and questions about the real car (which also never existed).
