Posted - 09/23/2010 : 07:28:13 Hello Everyone,
I know that there quite a few people here who take pride in the photos of their models. i was wondering if they could approve, or disapprove my purchase.
I bought a Nikon D5000, the one that comes with the Body and Two Additional Lenses.
I was also wondering if anyone could recommend the correct lens for taking the BEST pictures of a 1/43 model.
Thanks, Patrick Lewis

Posted - 09/24/2010 : 11:12:23 I have a Nikon D80 with 18-200mm VR lens. Also have a Tokina 2.8/100mm macro lens but I found that macro is sometimes overkill (not forgiving on details) for 1/43 models.
As for good photos, IMHO composition and lighting are most important. My models are all in the basement, no natural light so it's very hard to take good pictures. I would shoot RAW and reprocess the photos using Photoshop. Use high f/stops and slow shutter speeds to get the whole model in focus. Put the camera on a tripod and use timer if you don't have remote. Another thing I would highly recommend is an air blower/brush ($10 at camera store). It is handy to get the tiny lints and dust off the models prior to the photoshoot. |
