Dear fellow collectors,

when the first kit by Esprit43 was announced, I asked myself if there are more infos on that first GTO available. As most GTOs, the real car is not in its original state today and vintage pictures are quite rare. What I know is, that it was presented in red (there is a colot picture in the Klemantaski collection) and the optical differences are obvious. But which color had the interior, the seats? Has anyone more pictures from the press conference? There must be some...

Thanks a lot.

PS: Mike: Is the Italian flag stripe available as a decal in the kit

When do we see first built examples of the first Esprit43 model?

Very impressive data. Thank you very much, David! Looks like I have to buy this book :-)

My research comes from the book: Ferrari 250GTO by Keith Bluemel & Jess Pourret - the 250GTO bible....

Details on every single chassis number - owners, achievements and many period photos.

A must but getting very expensive now....

A very interesting history:

Displayed at the factory press conference on 24th February 1962 painted Red with green/white/red stripe as it was going to go to Scuderia SSS Repubblica de Venezia but Enzo Ferrari vetoed the sale at the last minute.

It stayed with the factory for some months and then was sold to Luigi Chinetti and painted Blu Gentiana with a central white stripe (medium metallic blue) and sometimes gets confused with 3387GT (No2 GTO) which was painted the same colour.

Owners were:

Bob McKelvey - Scuderia Bear '62 to '63
Bob Grossman - '63 to '64
Larry Perkins -
Bob Grossman - again
and many more...

During 1962 competed in:
Bridgehampton Double 400 3rd overall & 2nd in class
Tourist Trophy, Nassau 3rd overall & 3rd in class
Tourist Trophy, Nassau 2nd overal and 2nd in class
Governors Trophy Nassau 3rd overall & 2nd in class
Nassau Trophy 5th overall & 1st in class

1963 competed in numerous races in the States

Drivers in 1962 included:
Ed Hugus/Charlie Hayes
Lorenzo Bandini
and in '63 Bob Grossman, George Roberts

Hope this helps your research....

David

Thanks a lot for the quick and very helpful answers. Light gold - that sounds very interesting. Is there any reference available?

It is interesting that there isnt that much info on the first GTO around (at least vompared to other GTOs). I have to say that Racingsportscars seems to be a great source of information.

Agree with Marshall.... light blue seats, lt gold interior and black dash.

Interesting history for this the first 250GTO chassis - mostly US based... started off Red but seems to have gone all colours over the years..
