I wasn't talking about building a team around him. With his lies and manipulations within the team,
it is not only the future but also the past -- Hamilton has won every series he has ever been in , including the F1 championship in his second year , narrowly missing out in his first year - Vettel hasnt had much success in his past driving seats - so history would suggest Hamilton has the edge -
also i do feel some double standards , hamilton has been criticised as he is team mc laren /team hamilton , but is that not what another famous driver did , build a team around him , team ferrari schummi ? whats wrong with hamilton doing the same ?
1)Hamilton has lost his first title because he drove a NOT REGULAR CAR and the FIA has "invented" that season ending to save McLaren from being deleted from F1 as they deserve.

2)Hamilton has won his title in the second year by overtaking at the last lap Timo Glock that had suddenly decided to sound like a snail in that lap and nobody knows why.....we know it really!!!

These two points to say that i strongly believe that Louis is a fast and excellent driver but not absolutely the better one, he has many weaknesses even if i like very much his aggressive way of driving, maybe this year that his father is gone ( FINALLY!!!! ) he can grow up and become really consistent....but at the moment he is very far from Alonso or Schumy i think.

You must know the other series don't really mean something. There are many examples of drivers who had many success in lower series and didn't do anything good in F1 (recently Bourdais, Piquet junior,...). On the other hand, you can find drivers who succeeded in F1 though they weren't exceptionnal in lower series. Some others jump directly from a promotion formula to F1, etc. In these conditions, it's difficult to compare the past of every driver. Who knows, Vettel could have beaten Hamilton if they raced together.

I wasn't talking about building a team around him. With his lies and manipulations within the team, we can't say he built anything. Since the beginning, he was protected by Dennis and his father who was always present, now his career is even managed by McLaren.

Anyway, I won't start a long discussion. We both know that none of us will change his mind. :)
So, like I said, future will tell us.

I think that if you put Fernando, Vettel, Hamilton and maybe even the old Schumi (if he finds his marks back) in the right car, nobody will come close to any of them.

Give a McLaren to Vettel for his first two years and he will maybe do what Hamilton did as well. Put Hamilton in a Toro Rosso, and I am not sure he could have won races with it.
Don't you remember who was driving the Toro Rosso that almost offered a title to Massa by overtaking Hamilton at the last race ?

Of course, you have your opinion, I have mine and my conviction is that if you give them the same car, Vettel will beat him on the track. Of course, supposing they drive for another team than McHamilton...

Future will confirm who was right but I am quite confident.

I`m a Lewis fan for his driving but your only as good as your last result so like Schumi there is no point in saying what he has done as that won`t win races or the title.
To me this year so far and there has only been 1 race of course it looks like if you get a good grid position and good first lap then that could be it for that race.
Lets hope I`m wrong.

as much as i dislike Hamilton (his arrogance and his fathers smugness-good hes not around this year) i do think he , and not Vettel is the benchmark of the current bunch --. a world title and a runner up in his first two years
that cant be bad and is not to be dismissed , despite the fact he was a ron dennis project , he still had to go and do the business which he did - also as said highest points in the second half of the year last year speaks a lot once the other teams get it together , Vettel shows promise no doubt , but hamilton in the right car - nobody comes close --ask Fernando and even the old man schummi , being shown a clean pair of heels by another youngster

If Vettel has reliability this year, he will be the one to beat. He is the total package. I like Alonso next. He's motivated, he has backing by Ferrari, and has a great start to the season. Hamilton would be next, but I question his level as McLaren no longer have full Mercedes support. A great driver, but car may not keep up.
glengorse Posted - 03/17/2010 : 08:00:04

Vettel proved last year that if he can curb his enthusiasm and with reliable engines he is a winner... no doubt, the new benchmark.

Dont forget Hamilton , scored most points of all in second half of last season - has already won a WC , severley rattled the gifted and sulky Alonoso ,pound for pound (Kilo for Kilo, for those who use metric) in the same car i think he would beat anyone
he is the best of the next bunch

I knew you were going to say that. ;)
Anyway, I confirm that Vettel was better than Hamilton in Bahrain (and globally stronger in my opinion).
Supposing that Webber is as strong as Button in qualification (one of Webber's specialities), and I believe he is, let's see the qualifying results :
- Hamilton was 4 tenths faster than Button
- Vettel was 1.1 second faster than Webber

We can take several conclusions :
1)Webber was in an off-day
2)Hamilton was in an off-day
3)Button did a great job
4)Vettel did a fantastic job

Judging by the race, the gaps between the teammates were the same. In consequence, I can only go for conclusion #4.
And I am certain it wasn't a one shot from Vettel.

I see that Bernie said that you should blame the teams (he would say that though) rather than the new rules.

The first half of the race they were all conserving their tyres and the second half of the race playing catch up.... too too late.

Feel sorry for Vettel as he drove a perfect race until his problem.

i hate those stupid new rules!
i agree with Pwylie1, i think Hamilton is the best driver out there and will do good this season. but the Ferrari cars are very good this season so Hamilton will have some hard time with Alonoso and Messa. but i don't care any of them, i just want Schumi to win the title!! let the king rule once again!
