^^^^^ Hahaha... Pictures can be deceving... Your certainly no slacker and I don't do much fast:) Those vents are drilled on an angle towards the front to match the openings on the car. They would have been easier to shape if I opened them going in straight. Then I'd mix a batch of filler only to use a pin size drop and after that dried I'd slide a thin strip of 600 paper, do some shaping and repeat.

You've inspired me to want to build that Canada car too. I think it funny the guy who restored that car did'nt know what color was in 54 after the research you'd think they should have done:)

Hi Joe,

I am trying to finish a curbside version of the Canada Shoes 1954 "gold" 550 for the show. I had already drilled everything out, so its almost ready for paint. It won't be anything like your work of art but it will be a PAN AM model table filler!!! The only thing is the steering wheel. I am not sure what to do about that. The BBR kit is so simple.

^^^^ The steering wheel is a key detail. I been buying Looksmart 550's for theirs. I've also used 2 BBR 356 2 spoke wheels to make I 3 spoke wheel.

Speaking of steering

I ended up making this a little short on the first try. Had to cut the rack in the center, add a spacer and made another linkage. Got the column exiting the dash on a good angle. need to see if I can fit 5 switches on that instrument panel.

Joe,

Consistently excellent work as always, thanks for sharing! Superb work on the slant opening doors.

Tom - Please put me in for 6 of the decal sets as well! On a side note, any progress on the Englebert tires? Feel free to PM me.

Joe the steering looks great. You are really flying along on this one!!

Brian, I have the masters but have not had time to cast them. Just a matter of time. I will bring them to the Expo to show along with a few other suprises. The Porsche 356 Pan Am sheet was not much cheaper in 1/43rd than 1/24th. Go figure, but the Cartograf setup cost killed the savings.

Here's some more work on the front trunk. I got the steering to fit under the trunk floor and made the gas tank. The straps on this tank were drilled out and I gave that a practice run. I do not have a drill press or mill and was'nt sure if I could drill those. After some cross-eyed, hand cramping drilling I was able to produce something I can work with:)

Thanks for looking!!!!

Your work looks amazing. You only have 2 weeks, but at the rate you are going your might make it. Even if you don't finish bring it with. It would be a good workshop to show how it should be done!!

Added the rear crossmembers & shock towers to the frame. I also did some work on the motor. I add a strip around the fan shrould to do a little re-shaping. The tranny is a re-worked Bosica I cast.

I've got a few more parts made. This has become a little overwhelming and not going to be done in a week:( I hope to at least have the motor and frame done.

I started working on some carbs and added the exit screen on the back of the fan shrould.

Here's some rear suspension peices. Made axels, trailing arms and shocks.

Joe,

Check out this link for the Carrera Panamericana. A guy I know posted color photos of the VW sponsored Porsche 550 from 1954. It shows the blue color, not black like BBR/Project 43 did! Also notice the class winning Agfa #53 356 pre A. By the way, the Scale Designs 1/43rd 356 PAN AM decals are ready.

^^^^^Some great pics there Tommy. I've never seen a model in any scale of that Agfa #53 car. That would be a cool one to do if you had time. The blue wheel in this pic is a left over from the last building that 550. The BBR hood decal is wrong but the Starter got it right. Sorry I missed the show:(

Have'nt had much time to build the last few weeks. There are a few new parts in this pic... Made some exhaust pipes for the motor and added spare tire bracket to tranny. Made hard tonneau and sitting in front of the frame are inside & out door handles and some gauge ideas.

Made some brackets for horns and I'm modifying some F1 fuel fillers from Z model for the horns. Head lights are Make Up and turn signals are Bosica.
