Has anyone ever built the SMTS version? If so, was the bonnet designed to display in the open position or was it intended to open and close?
There were two versions offered, SMTS and Le Phoenix so any advise would be greatly helpful.
I would also be interested if anyone has an opinion on the difference between the two.

Rosso built a beautiful one a few years ago for Mike (McCormick), but I cannot remember if he used a Le Phoenix or SMTS base. Unfortunately, I lost my pictures of it a long time ago, but Mike might possibly still have copies backed up somewhere? I am pretty sure the bonnet opened and closed, but would not be surprised if Chan had to rework it slightly to make it fit nicely.
I am actually not certain if the Feeling43 kit will work with a Le Phoenix base, as LP's are usually slightly 'over' scale and F43 is pretty exact - but I could be wrong.

Hi Jono,
TK1 was the transkit made for the Le Phoenix kit and TK2 was made for the SMTS kit. I can assume only that scale was the difference.

Interesting, I never knew that - I have only ever come across the SMTS versions, obviously.

Chan was kind enough to respond quickly to my email and he used the trans kit for the smts version...but the f43 bonnet was a poor fit ( as I have found out is the case) so he used the original one. Hmmm.

OK, I just got off the phone with Serge. He tells me that the model was designed to have the bonnet open and close. The secret is the builder needs to move or change the position of the front suspension to get engine to sit correctly. He is presently at a LeMans vintage event so he could not get into details but promised to email me some photos.
BTW, I have heard a rumor from a source, fairly reliable that a new Feeling43 kit will make an appearance.

Just a few observations...first of all modification of the suspension is not indicated anywhere in the instructions [ and why is this a secret]and as for the other parts that are [apparently] to be operable no hinges are provided, SO one needs to design their own. The instructions state specifically to "use aluminium skraps to simulate the hinges". If they are meant to open/close why would you need to "simulate" anything. I had to misspell s****s ;)
If Serge designed the trans kit, then the suspension and motor should fit under the bonnet without the need for secret modifications...just saying.
Sounds pretty bizarre if you ask me. |
