Model Factory Hiro have announced they are doing a Porsche 917LH and maybe a 917K along with a Ferrari 250 in 1/12th scale. More information coming. The 250 teaser photos show a 16 inch cast and plated wire wheel in 1/12th scale. I think it might be a 1958 250 TR. We will see how the cast wheels turn out. They look nice in the photos but I think the machined rim is still missing.

Now this is interesting. Those wheel assemblies remind me of the Pocher wheels. But why plate them? |

It could be to make the cast spokes strong enough to support the model. I am not sold on this yet but it might work. The castings have to be almost perfect for it to look as good as hand made wire wheels. You could not cast them like this in smaller scales as we know because they would look terrible, but in large scale it could work well. |

Looks like the first 917 will be the 1970 Lemans LH's. Should be an amazing model. I hope they also do the 1971 LH Martini and a few 917K's.

Well it looks like the 250 kit will have a Tipo 168 engine. Based on the windscreen photos that would make this kit a Ferrari 250 GTO series II in 1/12th scale, not a 250LM due to the engine type. This will sell like crazy if not over priced!!!
I am guessing Hiro has the engine type correct on their website. The roof does look slightly more GTO than 250LM due to the airfoil on the windscreen photo.

Hehe, I would like to build one of these 250GTO or 917 to 1/12 scale, but without worrying about the price of the kit ... My heart is so fragile ... Lol

Pricing is announced and under $800.00 retail. Pretty reasonable I think. I am ordering kits so if anyone wants to get on board contact me. |

They went back to the seperate spokes and wheel rims on the kit. That should add a few hundred parts overall. If this was made in Europe it would be well over a thousand dollars, maybe even over $1500.00 I bet. Tokyo is not cheap so I don't know how they do it!!
I hope they do the series 1 GTO along with the GTO/LMB using this chassis and motor. |

Model Factory Hiro says they will do several more versions of the 250 GTO including a series 1, a Ferrari P4, Brabham Alfa BT46B fancar, Porsche 956, Williams FW16 and 917K all in super detailed 1/12th scale kits.
Hiro says they are having trouble getting the 1/43rd Ferrari F1 kits approved by Ferrari(maybe due to them trying to make the same cars as Tameo??).

After the building of the Porsche 962 MFH 1/43, I hesitated a long time for a 1/12 kit MFH. But this weekend I had the opportunity to observe the contents of the huge box of the Porsche 917 ... I could not resist the beauty of this wonder.
But what is surprising when you look at the plans for the 1/12 version and the version of the 1/43 ... it seems that the 1/43 kit is more detailed, more complicated! Probably a simple impression.
I hope that soon I would have time to build this beauty Psychedelic. In the meantime here is a picture of the monster and the contents of the kit box with to give an idea of size, his little sister at 1/43 somewhere on the picture Lol!

Looks like a "must build" . My favorite version of the 917L.
I do have an order to build the 64 GTO so this will be an interesting change of gears for me. I should have the kits soon and will give my impressions if anyone cares. |
