I am now the proud owner of a one-off model of the 1925 Type 22 that what pulled out of Lake Maggiore recently, after lying on the bottom for 73 years. Completely scratch-built by Bannarit Rittaporn in Thailand, in approximately 1/18 scale. It comes mounted on a fancy leather base and wooden box. I have to say, with it sitting here in front of me, it is one of the most amazing models I have ever seen...

That is pretty crazy. Great subject. Incredible build. Definitely one of a kind!
I dont suppose you planned on displaying this in a fish tank?
Enjoy, and as always, thanks for sharing.

That is simply amazing! I love the subject. Instead of it being a "Barn Find," It's a "Lake Find." :) I wonder if there is a market for "Barn find" subjects? Model cars built as they appeared when they were found in a Barn? Could be interesting :) Thanks for posting...

I need to check other scale forums more often...
WOW!
(What's the story about the real car - how did it end up in the lake?) |

It was privately imported into Switzerland sometime in 1937, but Swiss customs slapped an import tax onto it that exceeded the value of the car. The owner was given two choices: pay the tax or destroy the car (according the Swiss laws of the time), so it was pushed into Lake Maggiore! Until it was discovered by divers a few years ago, both the car and the story were considered to be something of a myth.

Jono, That model is just plain COOL. Loved your history piece especially because I was cruising around on Lake Maggiore just a few weeks ago. It is interesting to know what the area where that Bug was dumped and later retrieved looks like.
Cheers and Happy Collecting, Steve |
