Who's Orville Wright?
It's dated 1908! For all you aviation historians, was this check written before or after the first successful airplane flight??????? |

| I beg to differ the first powered flight was on December 17 1903.If you are speaking of gliders,the Wrights experimented since 1900 with models and later carrying a man.If that's what you mean then the Wrights were beaten by Otto Lilenthal who flew a manned glider long before them,in 1891. |

No, I was definitely talking about powered flight, not gliding...
A gentleman here in New Zealand by the name of Richard Pearse. Sadly, because his efforts were never widely publicized at the time, the fact that he beat the Wright brothers by nearly two years (if you count his short hops) has been hotly debated for decades. His first successful attempt at 'sustained' flight of approximately 350 yards in March 1903, was still about nine months ahead of the Wright brothers.
Of course, being a Kiwi myself, you can guess which side of the argument I fall into :o)

Hey Jono,
Since you are talking about Kiwi's and flight, I just thought I would mention one of my favorite TV shows of all time is 'Flight of the Conchords'.
I dont know if that's good thing or a bad thing.
