I just got this new cabinet to display some of my models. I stumbled onto it on Craigslist and only paid $300! It is welded nickel plated steel with wheels on the bottom and glass on top, bottom and all 4 sides. I am in the process of wiring LED lights...just waiting for the transformer and bulbs. What do you guys think?

Good score - especially at that price. I hope those caster wheels lock? I would be scared of someone bumping it and jarring the models otherwise.
How does it open?

| You can't see it in the picture, but I have attached the cabinet to the wall so it can't roll...I was worried about that. There is a glass door on the front with a magnetic spring latch...like some stereo cabinets have. |

I just finished the upgrades to my display cabinet. I attached the cabinet to the wall up top so it won't roll arouind. Then I added LED lighting. The 3500K color temp is nice and white, the lamps are only .6 watts each, emit virtually no heat or UV and they are rated to last 50,000 hours, so no worries about leaving them on or damage to the models.
The transformer is tucked into a little junction box I made under the bottom of the cabinets, and the lights are turned on and off ith a foot switch on the floor.
Then I added an electronic lock. The little round key is programmed to unlock it, and there is a spring loaded plunger that pops the door open. It runs on a camera battery that supposedly lasts over a year, and the lock starts beeping when the battery is getting low, but unlocks the lock when it dies...so you don't get locked out! It is quite clever...made in Austria...it is called the ConChip lock.
Biggest expense is the bulbs...they are $14 each! |

I am very impressed with how effective the lighting is. I have been planning to use LED's when my own cabinet gets built (if I can ever get someone to build it...), so I am glad to see this.
That lock is a fantastic idea, too.

I also think that the lighting system is wonderful! Gives some real car show lights look.
That's what I call one hi-tech display case :D |
