Posted - 01/17/2013 : 09:27:21 Hi all, does anyone can help with 1954 Carrera Panamericana Alfa Romeo participations? I know there were 13 cars, 2 of them DNS, so there are 11 cars that participated. Any help on the colors would be appreciated. Thank you in advance. Apostolos, Greece. |

Posted - 01/28/2014 : 15:13:19 Very cool!!! Good to see this car is still around in great shape. The chassis number should read #916.600. The 1951 Pan Am 2500SS is 915.805, a 1949 car. That car was also down in Mexico with a fiberglass body and American engine.

Posted - 10/09/2013 : 03:26:55 Hi all, I would like to share with you what i prepare for my participation in next year's Carrera model contest. It will be the 1954 Lincoln team with a couple of the supporting trucks. I need the #118 car to complete the team cars and that is where i need help to complete the decal work, so please if any one has pictures of the #118 i would be more than grate full if he can share them with us. Also you will see pictures of one of the Ford trucks the auxilio #8. Can any one help with a picture of the rear with the doors closed? A lot of work is involved on that completely scratch built truck with the special bodywork. I hope the result will be satisfactory. I have included pictures showing the progress so far, i hope it will be completed by the week end. Please comment

By the way, I am almost done with the 1951 Pan Am 2500SS model but in 1/24th. I redid the Quattroruote Ville de Este body and had decals done. It will be available as a body/decal transkit.

Hi F1tommy, is this 1/24 2500SS Pan Am Alfa apready done? Where can we get one?
Now about that Pan Am 1900 1/24 Alfa, did you notice that although the model comes with the standard chrome covered wheels, it has a complete (without the chrome cover) five nuts spare wheel in the trunk? best regards chaves pah It really is a pitty you did not make some resin copies to come along with your fantastic decal sheets... |

Hi, I am glad you like my models and that i have helped with the Alfa research. If Carter has pictures of other Alfas i would like to see #256, #264, #266 also front pictures of #254 and #260. These will complete my research. I have this list by now: #251 Dark olive green. #252 Light grey. #254 Black. #255 Olive green. #256 Dark olive green. #257 Mouse gray. #258 Black. #260 Olive green. #264 ??? #265 Dark blue gray. #266 ??? #267 Light gray. #268 Light gray Back up car Red. Now there is also the color of the bumpers front & rear, were they painted like the body color or there was some other significance to their color? Apostolos, Greece.
Hi apostolos1953, I too am looking for these Panamericana Alfas colours to paint my 1/24 1900 Panamericana model version so, after discovering the difficulties to find the real colours, and after all the posts in this forum (and also on the Ferrari chat, by suggestion of F1tommy), I just had the idea of contacting the Alfa Romeo Museum in Italy; so, using the data about some of the cars found on that period list of some of the entering cars in the fifth race ( I just noticed I forgot car # 257…), I contacted then the CENTRO DOCUMENTAZIONE ALFA ROMEO in the Museum, that, after a second mail with the chassis numbers (that I forgot to mention in my first mail…), very kindly sent me this list of colours: “#251 1900.07743 bigio ferro #255 1900.07823 bigio ferro #256 1900.07744 bigio ferro #267 1900.07547 grigio alba (AR 703) #268 1900.06245 grigio chiarissimo (AR 706)”...
Well, that “bigio” was impossible to find in the net, but once again Mr. Alfa Romeo kindly taught me that “bigio” is the same as “grigio” or grey, so... what about that! I suppose Alfa Romeo besides the #267 and 268 colour codes probabily lost the info about the other car colours... But, on the other hand, when I saw the two youtube films of the V Panamericana, #251, 255 and 256 aparently were some shade of brown, specialy when we see them in a sort of parking, a brown one side by side with a grey one, which might be #265 - this one is now undoubtly dark grey or grigio ferro, as in that dutch painting, since the present owner found the real colour under the last spray the car had when he recently decided to “srteep it to the bone”... So I made another move: Istarted looking for Alfa Romeo colour makers, and I found a german(?) maker, LECHLER https://www.google.pt/#psj=1&q=+TABELLA+COLORI+ALFA+ROMEO+%28LECHLER%29 Where we can find five pages only for Alfa Romeo colours, since 1945! but, for the years 1950 to 1956… there are no browns no beiges and not one “grigio ferro” or gun metal or dark grey, only both AR 703 grigio alba and AR 706 grigio chiarissimo so…

Posted - 07/02/2013 : 17:15:59 Well Carter was very helpful with information. I will post some of the things he sent me along with some of the information he wrote after I get approval from him(he already said I could post a few of his photos on ferrarichat. The Dutch magazine article you spoke of is very interesting).

Posted - 06/29/2013 : 07:21:48 Great stuff!! I got ahold of Carter and he says he wants to help out with the Pan Am Alfa's. He sold the #265 1900 TI but says the new owner is almost done with the restoration wich he said was very difficult. I know the Dutch artist who did that painting of #265. He has done alot of wonderful Alfa prints over the years wich I bought from him direct a few years back. I will have to ask if he ever printed that 1900 painting. The internet is a wonderful thing!!
By the way, Carter said he also has photos of the 2500SS 1951 and other 1900's. I want to confirm all the colors for all the Alfa's from 1950, 1951 and 1954. My Alfa 2500 book although very good only has serial number build dates and body styles but no color info.

Posted - 06/27/2013 : 10:01:07 Hi, the color of the #265 Alfa is dark blue gray, something like anthracite. The color is described as such by Carter Hendricks an Alfa expert and the owner of that particular car for some time. There is a fantastic article in Het Klaverblaadje nr62 1993 the Alfa club of Holland. Mr. Hendricks is in USA, St. Luis????
