Here are a few I made for Ferrari Expo 2012 this year. It has a Carrera Panamericana theme so I made a few PAN AM cars.
The Lancia and Mercedes are 1/24th scale. The 550 and 750 Monza are 1/43rd BBR/Project 43 kits. As you can see the 550 is gold not silver. Here is a link to prove what we figured out.

On the 1/24th scale models I used the CMC 1/24th 300SL as a bases and repainted and decaled(they used stickers). The windows and window frames were replaced and the cockpit re-detailed. The Lancia is based on a Airtrax street B20 resin kit modified heavily to a B20 de Corsa. Pattos Place decals were used. I made window frames and robbed a Quattroruote B24 for the grill. It was alot of work as the de Corsa is very different from the street version. All the de Corsa's were scrapped by Lancia. The ones you see now in Italy are replicas. I have a color photo of the de Corsa at the Pan Am 1952 that proves the wheels were red not black.

Tom,
Outstanding workmanship and research, thank you for sharing that.
Love the Lancia especially, and the look of 550, and the sharkness of the 750 Monza, and the Merc too.
Just beautiful.

Cheers and Happy Collecting,
Steve

Hi F1tommy,
my congratulations on your builds, i would like to make two remarks with all respect.
First for the #51 Porsche 550 there are two CASTROL decals over the CANADA decals on the rear end of the car. That is easily corrected.
Second is a tricky one, should the Mercedes star on the front be blue or green? If you look at any black & white picture the shade of the star is not the same with the flames on the fenders. After all the Mercedes crest at the time was blue and blue is on the other two cars #3 & #6.
with respect,
Apostolos, Greece.

Hi Apostolos,

I did forget the small Castrol decals above the Canada on the rear. I think I have them on another sheet I can put on. You know the BBR and Starter sheets are both missing half the decals. I am planning on doing this car as a model kit in 1/24th scale soon. Also on the Mercedes they painted the crest to match the striped per the Mercedes factory museum. When that photo was taken I had not put the Mercedes star on the grill yet also.

Hi Tom,
I know this is a black and white picture and is very original.
If the plate is red, the stripe is green is the star green too?

I think you might be right about the blue logo. The color photo after the race of both cars posted at Ferrarichat looks more blue than green. I also posted a list of European 1954 Pan Am cars with chassis numbers and colors.

apostolos1953 I think is 100% correct about the Mercedes logo being blue since all the other cars had blue Mercedes logos it would seem from these pictures. Very interesting disscusion on the Mercedes 300SL Pan Am 1952 cars going on here:
