Hello, I hope everyone is doing well, I was wondering if someone can give me some tips for cleaning a 1/43 model? I got this models(ebay) that supposed to be "new" but it wanst it is all dusty and dirty, I was thinking on using turtle wax liquid polish on the body and maybe the windows, can it work? it had a dust cover but I guess it was never use!

Thanks!
Abel

Hi Abel

I use Tamiya Modeling wax. It is very good to remove dust and dirt from model cars.

Regards

Michael

Don't attempt to "clean" the model with wax...you could grind the dirt into the surface. Use some distilled water on a piece of paper towel first and damp dab the surface to remove all of the dirt. Then it should be safe to apply a wax. Any Carnuba wax is fine.

If the windows are vac forms they can be polished. If they are acetate [like most BBR models] do not apply anything...it will ruin them. Distilled water is safe.

Yes, no problem.
I use the Tamiya wax several times on really dirty model cars and there was never a problem.
It is not a wax like a car wax.
It is wonderful to clean model cars.

I do a lot of Restaurations on older BBR Models, i use several products. I swear of my 3M products. I use to polish a Model a finish polish for scale 1:1 Cars :-)

Hello Abel,

i had to remove the wipers for cleaning up the model. If you look close inside the Model you will see that the front seats come off. This is why i have to remove the Base and the complete interior also.

Here some better pictures for you.

Blast from the past on this thread!

Does anyone use an air blaster / lens cleaner like this;

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/images/images1000x1000/Giottos_AA1900_Rocket_Air_Blower_259157.jpg

I'm curious if this is safe to use around the headlights on bbr 1/43? Is the paint around the headlights very secure?

Thanks!

I've just cleaned a bunch of old Solido's and I've also used this on some of my built models. Q-tips with windex and kleenex. Make sure you soak the q-tip and you can dry the surface with another untreated q-tip and/or the tissue. Works wonders.
