At long last, my new cabinet is completed!
It will take up to 90 models if they are mounted on standard 1/43 BBR style bases. Each one slides in and out on special drawer runners (a push will latch/unlatch), and has a lift off glass case with a very precise fit, which will keep out 99.9% of dust. A line of cool white LED 'ribbon' runs along the top of each layer, recessed in immediately above the glass (the LEDs can be dimmed). Each case has matching material on the base to provide just enough friction to prevent the models from moving accidentally when the drawers are slid open or closed. The cupboards underneath are for storing the boxes in.

Yes, it is custom made. I designed it and had it built by a company who make kitchens and cabinetry. They built it out of MDF, using a CNC woodworking machine which ensured that every drawer was precise and identical. This meant that the man who does my display cases was able to make ten glass cases to my measurements - and they all fitted perfectly!
