I am planning to update my Excel spreadsheet list of Ferrari handbuilts which is limited to road cars, styling concepts, stradale versions and one off customs. I collect no actual race versions, other than Le Mans which is kept in a separate spreadsheet. My goal is to have a comprehensive list so I know which cars I still need for my collection that have been modelled previously no matter how rare. I have info on most of the manufacturers but cannot seem to find a comprehensive list of those Ferrari's modelled by MR.

I have the BBR book and All the World's 1/43 Ferraris but need more current information. The MR web site does not seem to be complete. Where can I find a comprehensive list on the Web?

Wow... that is interesting - and potentially very useful. Nice one, Christian :o)

I think we should have a permanent thread in here with this sort of information in it (BBR, RGM, MR, etc, etc).

Il grande piccole, the BBR book contains a list of BBR production uptill 1995.

The "new" revised book was "tobe" a "few" years ago...
Have been waiting and waiting and still waiting ever since I read the anouncement...

This was a great idea Radical Racing... I'm sure there will be some cars that people see in these lists that are a must have! :)

Christian, thanks very much for the MR list. Would it be possible to provide the year of manufacture and chassis# (for the early custom bodied cars) of the 1:1 car modelled by MR/Looksmart? It seems this is often missing from their packaging. Maybe Forum members can help fill in the blanks.

I do not know why so many model manufacturers do not include year of manufacture and chassis number (for custom bodied cars) on the cartons and base label. I would buy more and avoid the dreaded duplicate purchase if they did. I do not collect different colors just significant body shape differences as the goal of my Ferrari collection is to show the evolution (and beauty) of Ferrari automobiles.

I have a zillion books on Ferrari but I still have a lot of trouble discerning whether a newly released model is different than one I already have from another model manufacturer. Is it a Series I or II or III? Is the only difference the number of louvers in the front wings? I want to have a model of every Ferrari production road car, one off custom, styling exercise and stradale but with some of the early cars there is just not enough visible body differences from chassis to chassis for me to justify buying it.

If I have the base model type, the year of manufacture and the chassis# for custom bodied cars, I will have everything I need to make a purchasing decision. I am making a concerted effort to complete my Ferrari data base so I know what I need to tell the complete Ferrari story in the way I want to tell it. Just my obsessive nature I guess.

Mike:

There are a lot of blanks in the list Christian sent. Can you send it to MR and ask them to fill them in?

Why not to make a database, where every forum member could upload max. 2 pictures? All Manufacturer, under the standard models and special series as well.

Jono, you could tell if it is possible, or not.

I have a list of Looksmart Lambos (full, as far as I could find them) and a far not complete list for MR Lambos. Pictures would be also possible.

I would love to see two Ferrari data bases created (one for road going cars and one for competition cars).

In my dream the data base would be organized by year from 1943 to present. The road car data base for example would include for each year, every Ferrari production car, custom bodied car with chassis#, stradales?, and one off styling/concept cars. Furthermore it would include the model mfr. and kit/built part number for each model of that car done at the handbuilt *level including such mfrs. as BBR, MR, AMR, Looksmart, Heco, Le Phoenix, Tron, ABC Brianza, MG Model, Technomodel, Hostaro, Ilario, ECO, Dallari, Yow, RGM, Makeup etc. I am sure there are more I have forgotten just now.

*The level of quality to include might cause some debate. I think we could agree Top Model or Jolly or die cast should not be included.

The data from the 1:1 side is definitely is available. Ferrari is the most written about and photographed marque in the world as we all know. If the data on the model manufacturing side is available any where in the world it is here within the combined knowledge of the Miniwerks forum members. Putting it all together would be a massive job. I know because I have been doing it for 15 years with my Le Mans collection. I update it weekly with new releases.

Such a data base would certainly be a great reference for Forum members and I think a very nice legacy for all of us to leave to future collectors. As we all know, we are only the temporary guardians of these miniature works of art......unless some of you plan to be buried with your AMR's and Barnetts.

Thinking about it a bit more. I would like to see three data bases rather than two.

1) Ferrari road cars ie. regular prduction, customer bodied cars, stradales, styling/concept cars and one off customer cars.

2) Race cars

3) F1, F2 and Indy cars

I have started looking to see how much work would be required for the manufacturing side of the data for 1). I reviewwed the book Ferrari A Complete Guide to All Models, Acerbi and The Complete Ferrari, Hicks. Both books seem to have some missing information on production and custom bodied cars from the 50's and 60's but might be a good starting point.

The toughesat thing to document, it seems to me, will be the custom bodied cars, the one off styling excercises and one off customer cars. For example where does one find information on (the base model, year of manufacture etc.)the Sultan of Brunei's cars?)

I think, Todd, that perhaps it would be less confusing to have the concept/customer/one-off cars in a database of their own, separate from the 'standard' road cars.
