Recently I built a Lotus 49B for Miniwerks based on WCT68 Tameo kit. is a very good kit with almost 300 pieces, and I made some improvements as you can see on this WIP, https://picasaweb.google.com/112081313741004960339/Lotus49MonacoGP1968#

Now I start to build, based on the same kit, the 67 version from the Lotus 49, and I will post some pictures from the WIP on this thread.
When I start this project I don’t have the notion of the so many changes, from the Lotus 49 to the 49B, mostly of them on the body and on front and rear suspensions.
I hope you enjoy

I make the nose cone shorter with some files

I make the body around the cockpit with the windshield

The front suspension has a total different geometry, I have some suspension arms from the Meri/Bosica kit but I prefer to change the originals with brass tube

The next step is to adapt the radiator and the deposit on the front

Thanks

Bravo Rossocorsa, this is a very brave attempt. I'm still building the GLTL version. You need to change quite a lot but you obviously have the right books to do the conversion. The gearbox was ZF which you no doubt found out. Do you know Akihiro's build. You can dowload his build report (very helpful) here:

I will follow this project with great interest. The best of luck.

Very nice detail work...I am always impressed with the ability of some builders to re-work details like the brass tube you have done. The soldering alone is an art. It would be helpful if you would discuss exactly how you did this.

Thank you Harm and Peter.
Yes Harm the gear box is diferent and I plan to change the bottom. I know the Akihiro’s building but the Tameo is totally diferent kit and I will have a diferent approach. Maybe something similar on the rear suspension.

Peter I use a soldering iron with sharp tip, with small pieces of white metal you have to be very careful to not melting them.

The oil/water deposit on the Lotus 49 is on the front, between the radiator and the suspension, I use the deposit from the old Meri kit to make a new one. I need to adapt the tubes to the new configuration. I’m going to make too, some new tubes with brass rod.

I rarely use flux, I imaging with very delicate work it's crucial. I have a bit of fear melting the white metal. When I recently added solder to a plated white metal part I simply roughed up the matting surface and then "dripped" the solder on a little at a time.

Funny but your conversion made me aware that Tameo got the nose wrong. The bottom part also goes all the way back to the chassis. Found plenty of pics to prove this.

Hello Jotace, long time no see :)thank you.
Peter, the flux is to help fixing the solder with the brass or the white metal, I use it always.
Harm, regarding the nose bottom I don't have any photo from that. If you can post one I appreciate that.
Now some updates, I make some tubes with brass rod and the rear suspension with brass tube. Some changes on the body to fix the rear suspension. Start to work on the engine, prepare to the wiring.
I hope you enjoy, thanks.
Ricardo

Very well done...I do prefer your brass round suspension rework. The pe from the kits are "flat" and not realistic.

Truly amazing Ricardo, so enjoyable to see the process. It really helps collectors appreciate the talent required.
